Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia starred in the music video for the hit song “Paubaya.” by Moira Dela Torre.
The online world went abuzz over a video starring ex-lovers on Valentine’s Day.
The story is about the two stars depicting a happy and caring couple who are about to get married. This is when the music video started. It was light, smooth, happy, and very positive.
But later on, when the two characters had to say goodbye to each other, the music video turned emotional.
One of the statements we heard from Julia on this video made some netizens wondered, “Is it was coming from themselves personally?”
“I’m sorry, Josh. I’m sorry napagod ako. I’m sorry nawala ako. Natakot ako kasi hindi kita mahanap noon. Binigay ko sa’yo lahat, naubos lang ako. I’m sorry nasaktan kita.”
The moment Joshua answered, the scene became more dramatic.
“Gusto kong mag-thank you sa’yo sa lahat ng memories na ibinigay mo sa akin. Hindi man natin nagawa ‘yung mga pangarap natin, masaya na ako sa mga pinagsamahan natin. Masaya ako na masaya ka.”
Julia then replied,
“Gusto kong maging masaya ka rin.”
The heartbreaking scene in the video felt raw and natural, many netizens said. Netizens also referred to it as the “closure” the former couple had not had before.
“The ending is giving me a whole new level of goosebumps. The fact that both of them ended it in the Church and the last line ‘Pinapaubaya ko na sa Kanya’ with ‘Kanya’ pertaining to God is powerful. Joshua loved Julia so bad, he wants God to take over the love of his life he could not have. This isn’t acting guys. This is closure. And this is what breaks our hearts over a hundredfold because it is both a tribute and an ending to their relationship music video,” one netizen commented.
“Respect for Josh and Julia’s courage to have their closure, whether this MV is scripted or not, at least for once, they’ve got the chance to express themselves, tell each other the pain they’ve got from their ill-fated relationship, and they’ve got to say ‘SALAMAT, PAALAM at PATAWAD,’” another netizen said.
Here are some more of the comments:
Spontaneous or not, that was the closure they deserve to each other. Every closure in failed relationships is heartbreaking yet, it allows you to totally move on and open a new chapter in a clean slate. Joshua and Julia’s emotions in the music video, in my opinion, was genuine though. Moira’s music videos have had bittersweet contents, the Paalam trilogy and Paubaya duology marks the most in public. Kudos to Moira and the team for this!
Going back to their real love story, it was in June 2019 when JoshLia as their fans called them announced their breakup. Byt since then, their fans still wondering what really happened to them or they really had closure.
This music video seems to be their final goodbye to each other.
